Why Ginkgo Trees?
T. Delos Crary, an Asbury Theological Seminary board member, brought back ginkgo saplings from a mission trip, which were then planted in front of the Morrison Administration Building in 1952 or 1953. These ginkgo trees still stand today as some of the most recognizable features on the Seminary's campus.
Each fall, their leaves turn a vivid gold and drop almost all at once, analogous to seminary graduates being “sent out” into the world. Throughout their lifetime, they have become a gathering place for prayer, reflection, and even special services. A parable in the landscape, the ginkgo trees are a reminder that as students, staff, and faculty come and go, we are part of a larger story.
